10 Percent of Indian Population Owns Phones

Over 10 percent of Indians now own phones, with the combined subscriber base for fixed lines and mobile phones reaching 110.01 million in a billion-plus population, India's telecommunication regulator said Thursday.

The total number of mobile phones in the country is 62.57 million and that of fixed phones to 47.44 million. [via The Associated Press]
