Police raid Purnea jail in Bihar, recover mobile phones
Yet another story today involing inmates and cell phones, reported by Indian online PTINews.
"In the wake of a recent spurt in criminal activities, police today raided the divisional jail here and recovered cellular phones, SIM cards and chargers from some wards where dreaded criminals are lodged.
Police Superintendent Sudhanshu Kumar told PTI that policemen carried out raids on different wards of the jail and seized three cellular phones, eight chargers and several SIM cards.
The raids were conducted following reports that some prisoners were 'running' their 'criminal activities' from behind the bars and had masterminded the killing of a businessman in the town a week ago along with the kidnapping of the schoolboy yesterday, he said.
The recovery of the SIM cards would help establish links of the prisoners with the gangsters responsible for the criminal activities in Purnea. "We are going to transfer some of the criminals from Purnea to Bhagalpur jail," he said, adding a list of such inmates was being prepared."
