Mobile message-mad Norwegians break all records
Norwegians already rank among the most eager mobile phone users in the world, reports Aftenposten."Now their habit of sending text and photo messages over their phones is breaking all previous records, but their busy thumbs can cost them dearly.
Numbers show that the country's the two leading mobile phone providers, Netcom and Telenor, handled nearly 35 million photo messages from January to June. That compares to 18 million MMS transactions in the same period last year. The number of text messages, meanwhile, jumped to 1.86 billion, from 1.45 billion in the first half of 2004.
...With mobile phone use all the rage, insurance companies are cracking down on motorists who may be fiddling with their phones while driving, and causing accidents.
Norwegian insurance companies have now started going through police reports of accidents, looking for any hints of illegal mobile phone use. If it can be established that a motorist involved in an accident was using a mobile phone, insurance settlements can be cut by as much as 30 percent".
