Phone firms to swap antispam blacklists

In Japan, cell phone companies will be able to exchange blacklists of clients who are sending out massive numbers of nuisance e-mails so as to deny them the chance to abuse the service, reports The Daily Yomiuri Online.

The Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry believes that companies ought to be compiling blacklists of bulk e-mail senders and sending their lists to other companies, as those senders tend to switch from one cell phone company to another after being banned by service providers. The new guideline will formally be announced early next week.

Currently, cell phone companies exchange data on clients who do not pay fees. The ministry will allow companies to exchange such data as names, addresses and dates of birth of those who were sending out massive numbers of e-mails. Based on this information, cell phone companies can find and reject applicants already blacklisted by other companies.
