Beijing solicits public opinion on development plan
Politically-conscious Beijingers have been enthusiastic in contributing their opinions on the development plan for the national capital for the next five years, delivering over 7,000 suggestion messages to the urban planning authorities over the one-week of public consultation, reports China Daily.
"... Over 2,000 Beijing citizens sent short messages via mobile phones, the Internet or mail voicing their concerns over the population explosion in the city and its attendant problems.
According to the opinions, local residents worry about employment, housing, traffic and energy shortages as the permanent population in the city has increased by 300,000 annually over the past five years."
