Calling all Worlds of Fun visitors: Gimmick may be a first

redrollerc.gif World of Fun in Kansas has launched what it claims to be the amusement park industry's first text messaging service for customers, reports Wichita Eagle.

"Text Connection" delivers up to 10 messages daily to the personal cell phones of park guests, with tips on live show times, short ride lines, and other park attractions and deals.

Visitors can sign up for the free service up to two weeks in advance, or at the gate as they enter the park.

This week, for instance, messages urged visitors to "take a break from the heat" in the park's air-conditioned restaurants, theaters and arcades. Others pushed a sale on T-shirts at a gift shop and the park's new all-you-can-eat barbecue restaurant.

"We are always looking for fresh and fun ways to help our guests enjoy their visit even more," said Worlds of Fun marketing director Chris Ozimek.

"With the growing popularity of text messaging, we feel that Text Connection is another great way for us to communicate with our visitors."

I think there's a very fine line here that's being crossed - between communicating and spamming.
