Spot checks on mobile phone users

Faced with a surge in mobile phone thefts, police in Singapore will start randomly checking mobile phone users for stolen handsets, according to the Malaysia Star via mocoblog.

"Officers will sporadically approach members of the public and check their phone's serial number against a database of numbers of lost or stolen handsets".
