Cell phone covert recordings in school

nokia_6630_grau.jpg Another reason why cell phones should be banned in school, according to a Belfast teacher's union; parents and students are using them to record teachers covertly on the school premises.

"Mobile phones should be banned in Ulster schools following alleged serious misuse by parents and pupils, a leading teaching union claimed yesterday, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

"One issue of particular concern to Mr Longman is parents secretly using phones with voice-recording facilities during parent-teacher meetings. These meetings, he conceded, can become "quite confrontational".

In another case a pupil recorded a teacher telling off pupils in his class.

"Taped recordings are open to abuse and can be manipulated afterwards," the union representative said.

"Our advice is that teachers should immediately call any meeting to an abrupt halt if they notice a recording device is being used. Camera phones can also be open to manipulation and could be used in pupil-pupil interaction inappropriately."
