Hit the streets to help homeless people

crisis.gif File under something nice - and you can help out too.

Next Thursday 9th June Steve Procter and Mark Birch, Directors of leading UK mobile solutions company iTAGG are running the 3.5 miles around the City of London to raise money and awareness for Britain's homeless charity Crisis.

To make sponsorship quick and easy iTAGG have developed a simple text messaging system to let you donate straight from your mobile phone.

Crisis estimates that there are 380,000 Hidden Homeless people living in hostels, squats and bed and breakfast accommodation or sleep on the floors of friends and family. Many are struggling with problems such as unemployment, family breakdown, mental ill health and substance abuse.

To make a donation using the iTAGG sponsorship system is as easy as requesting a ringtone. To sponsor us simply text the word CRISIS to 60300 and we will charge £5 to your mobile phone bill.

One of my favorite fund raising stories by SMS involves runners too:

-- Text 'n' RUN to raise money - In April 2003, a runner raised money on behalf of the Alzheimer's Society, as he participated in the London Marathon. He displayed the word "RUN" and a short code (84133) next to his sport number during the 26 mile course.

Each message was sent to the shortcode, and charged £1.50, of which £1 went to the Alzheimer's Society. He raised a little over £ 5'000.
