Health survey hit by rumours
Rumours and suspicion hampered a door-to-door national health survey in Bahrain, reports The Gulf Daily News.
"Word went round that the volunteers conducting the survey were forcibly injecting unsuspecting people in their homes. As a result hundreds of householders literally slammed the door on surveyors, who were just trying to find out how best to help them, volunteers said yesterday.
Rumours spread like wildfire using SMS messages, warning people not to open their doors for the surveyors.
"When the survey first started, people started sending phone messages warning others that there were unidentified people, including women, who were visiting homes and giving people shots for no reason," volunteer Rabab Al Mulla told the GDN."
