"Cho Myung-ae, a 23-year-old who already has an online fan club in the South formed after she performed here during Liberation Day celebrations in 2002, will be in four commercials for the Anycall cell phones made by Samsung Electronics.

Ms. Cho will be teamed up with the local pop star Lee Hyo-ri, who has been endorsing the Anycall phones since 2003.

Bai Dong-man, who heads the company, said he decided to recruit the North Korean dancer in order to promote the notion that the Anycall cell phones can work anywhere in the world, including North Korea.
