Makers of Cellphone Video Games Suddenly Find Great Expectations

E3expo.gif Video games for cellular phones are beginning to catch on with consumers, and that is making hot properties of companies that develop games for tiny mobile devices. The New York Times reports from Entertainement Expo, E3, the annual video game industry trade show this week in Los Angeles.

"Evan Wilson, a video game industry analyst with Pacific Crest Securities, projects that by 2008, wireless game revenues in the United States will grow to $1.8 billion; sales in 2004 were around $394 million, according to IDC, a market research firm.

Mobile phone carriers are enthusiastic about phone games because they provide a new source of revenue. The audience is expected to grow even though only about 35 percent of phones currently in use are capable of playing games, industry analysts and executives said.
