Games push cellphone use: Study

The furious sales figures for cellphones are not simply the result of people wanting to talk to each other more, but the result of using them for mobile computer games and gambling, reports Globe and Technology

"So says Juniper Research, whose report Mobile Entertainment Content Series (second edition) says that gambling and games will drive mobile entertainment from $17.6-billion (U.S.) a year in 2005 to $59-billion in 2009.

Specifically, Juniper says that a rapid expansion in mobile content, allied to a sharp increase in 2.5G and 3G handset adoption, will be at the centre of the booming industries for the next five years".
