Shuku Keitai 'Tamagotchi' capts cell phone signals
Tamagotchi, the small electronic toys that enable users to raise virtual pets, are making a comeback among elementary school children in Japan, eight years after they first came on the market, reports the
Mainich Daily News.
The popular "Shuku Keitai" version of the Tamagotchi comes equipped with a function allowing the toy to receive signals from cell phones.
"A cell phone site contains the "birthplace" of Tamagotchi and the toys can receive "Gotchi points."
Kazue Murase, who helped develop the latest toy, said that the communications function had been added with high school girls in mind. However, it seems to have proved more popular among elementary school students".
