Phone giveaway for at-risk social workers

Hundreds of social workers in Leeds whose jobs may put their safety at risk are to be given mobile telephones, reports Leedstoday Evening Post.

"There are many front-line staff who regularly deal with some very difficult situations, on their own and without immediate backup, said Peter Harrand, executive councillor for social care. "As a council we have a duty of care toward the very people who themselves care for our most vulnerable citizens".

"Recent high-profile cases have shown that a social worker's ability to contact managers for advice or guidance can be crucial to a successful outcome where a young or older person is at risk of harm or neglect."
