Americans are top cell phone spenders

americans.gif This is surprising news as I always thought America was behind Asia and Europe.

"According to research revealed recently by Wireless World Forum, a United Kingdom-based technology consortium, America's young people now lead the world in spending on cell phones, reports The Chicago Tribune.

"In the United States, 50 million cell phone owners are younger than 25 and will collectively spend $20 billion this year on their cell phones. American young people spend more on cell phone downloads -- such as ringtones, music, games or the latest handsets -- than any other country in the world, the research finds.

They now spend more than the five largest European economies (France, U.K., Germany, Italy and Spain) combined.

According to the mobileYouth 2005 report released in late March, $1 in every $10 that children and young people now spend is related to their cell phone.

The statistics are part of Wireless World Forum's annual research into young people and and are published in the mobileYouth 2005 report."
