Mobile phone companies dismiss techno-waste fears

0253726625182462.jpg The Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association says the Government and conservationists are creating a scare campaign about the disposal of mobile phones, reports abc.net. It claims that the number of phones being dumped into landfills is lower than government estimates.

"According to The association's business development manager, Glenn Brown, "the number that's going to landfill is very, very low. The research showed that over the last 15 years, which is the period mobile phones have been used in this country, there was 9 per cent of respondents indicated that they'd thrown their mobile phone away, compared to 6 per cent that had recycled".

[...] We don't share the view of some of the critics and some government officials that there is a crisis with millions of mobile phones being dumped into landfill. That just is not the case".
