At Theaters Soon: Sony Ericsson Ads
Sony Ericsson said it is committing about 75% of its North American media budget to ads in movie theaters, reports the WSJ.
"Marketers appear to be taking an interest in the movie-theater platform, though it is new enough that some third-party data vendors don't track it thoroughly.
Big-screen commercials are becoming more attractive, even if they are controversial. [...] Some consumers find these ads repugnant.
Earlier this year, Andrew Fleischmann, a Connecticut state representative, proposed a bill that would have asked movie-theater operators to post times when films actually start, not just so-called show times. "To be subject to commercials for soft drinks and automobiles and credit cards when you've paid $10 to get in the door is upsetting to a lot of people," he says.
It apparently wasn't upsetting enough for some of his colleagues; the bill was killed."
