"Light a candle for the pope" by SMS, spreads in Poland

01.gallery.ap.jpg As millions all over the world pray for Pope John Paul II, in Poland, a text message has spread "to light a candle for the pope", reports CNN.

"The pope is in his death throes", Polish daily Gazeta Wybrocza said, which reported that candles had been lit since Friday evening in windows throughout Poland, where the movement "light a candle for the pope" had spread spontaneously by text-messaging".

A similar vigil took place last September, when an Italian text message called out for people to remember the hundreds of children killed in the Russian hostage drama by lighting candles, and the vigil spread to Finland.
