Numbering cell phones

carmenopera.gif With all of the new phones coming out, am I the only one who can't remember their names? or more accurately their numbers? What's the number of the Samsung's 7 megapixel camera phone or Samsung's new music phone? And the last time I read about them was only yesterday.

This morning I read Samsung was coming out with a phone called "Carmen", a 3-Megapixel UMTS Phone. But my excitment didn't last. Carmen is only a "code name", it's real name is SGH-Z270.

I can't tell you which Nokia model I have in my purse right now (it's the sleek black one with a 1.3 megapixel camera phone). I can't even say what the model number was of my very first cell phone (Nokia). It was dark blue.

I remember my first car (a hundred years ago), a Lancia Fulvia and I drive a Mini Cooper now. What is it with phone manufacturers and their naming of cell phones? Of course I realize numbers are easier to identify in many languages and countries. But I still think it's a shame they don't have names. The new cell phones are objects of desire. But who dreams of numbers?
