Traffic report services for cell phones
Yahoo! sends driving directions to your phone reports Engadget. "Hit the “Send to Phone” link on their Yahoo! maps page and you'll get the data via SMS, with images also available with your data connection."
And the San Jose Mercury News reports on several Real-time traffic services for mobile phones .
-- Bay Area drivers use 511.org. Many call and use the voice-activated system from their cars. Started in late 2002, the system has recorded 5 million calls. Callers can find out driving times and problems on their particular route.
-- My Sigalert.com -- for a yearly fee -- send personalized traffic reports via e-mail to their sibscribers cell phones or pagers.
-- Map maker Rand McNally offers a downloadable traffic product to AllTel, AT&T Wireless, Sprint PCS and Verizon Wireless subscribers. It provides information about traffic flow and accidents in 94 big cities.
