Patents for Slide Phones Rising

Lee reports that patent applications for slide phone are rapidly rising. According to the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) Thursday, the number soared to 124 in 2004. It was on 14 in 2001, 29 in 2002 and 115 in 2003.
Meanwhile, the applications for clam shell phones in 2003 were recorded at 77 cases.
KIPO analyzed that the rising number reflects the fact that slide phones become mainstream design in mobile industry.
From 1984 when mobile service was first launched, patent applications for bar type and flip phones continued increasing to peak at 30 in 1998.
However, the number for folder phones is declining to 77 in 2003 and 30 in 2004.
