China goes text message crazy over Lunar New Year

337-10.jpg According to Beijing Mobile, it handled more than one billion outgoing short messages on Tuesday's Lunar New Year's Eve alone, reports Channelnewsasia.com via China Digital News.

"Xinhua news agency Thursday estimated that more than 10 billion text messages would be sent over the week-long holidays that end on February 16, up 200 million from last year".

Sending a message in China costs just 0.1 yuan (one cent).
