Poisen pen messages, ingrained in Maylasian culture
According to the New Straits Times, there seems to be no end to the Malaysian habit of scandal-mongering and that the more malicious and improbable the allegations contained in poison-pen (text) messages, the more likely they are to be believed.
"So serious is the pernicious influence of the scurrilous scribes and peddlers of rumour that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was moved to single them out for special mention at his Press conference.
It seem sneither the holy pilgrimage to Mecca nor the solemn rites of burial seems to deter people from backbiting or from sending cruel calumny by text message.
