New Cell Phone Technology to Block Exam Cheating
A new technology of detecting mobile phone users was developed by a local scientist, offering a new way to prevent the recurrence of exam cheating through cell phones, reports The Korea Times.
"Kyung Hee University professor Kim Ihn-seok on Wednesday revealed the technology. Its commercial debut is expected as soon as next month.
A device equipped with this technology will enable supervisors to pinpoint cheaters as it can detect handset usage within its radius of 5 meters,'' the 57-year-old said.
The underlying principle is very simple. As the Korean government fixed cell phone-specific frequencies, detection of those frequencies lets supervisors to identify unauthorized handset users.
Kim said a conventional handset spectrum-jamming device costs more than 500,000 won per unit. In comparison, he projected his new gadget would be priced less than 300,000 won.
He added the function of the palm-sized device would not be limited to exam supervision.
On top of preventing exam cheating, this technology can be applied to balk industry spies who stole our industrial know-how to offshore buyers via camera phones,''' Kim said. "
