Cell phones instead of Class Rings

classring.gif According to an article Twin Cities, sales of school mementos such as class rings are down, as teenagers prefer to spend their dollars on cell phones.

"The average senior, according to a spokesperson for Jostens, an industry leader in supplying high school keepsakes, will spend $75 to $150 on mementos.

The keepsakes celebrate and symbolize their pride in their schools, their sense of accomplishment on their graduations, their memories of their high school, she added.

Over the years, Jostens has noted a "slight decline" in the sales of class rings, Julie Goetz, Jostens' communications manager, said. Where half of students once bought rings in the '60s and '70s, that number is down to about a third, one company source said.

Price could have something to do with that and Goetz attributed at least some of the decline in ring purchases to competition — cell phones, for instance — for teens' dollars".
