SMS for an SOS: Beware of charges, deductions

Update Jan 4: Following the story that the donations were subject to deduction arising from charges levied by cellular services providers, Airtime Media Productions (AMP) said in a statement issued yesterday that the company would make up the difference, reports The Star.

This article from the Malaysia Star is a little confusing. As I understand it, it's a warning to donors that with regard to SMS fund raising campaings in Malaysia, "charges will be incurred to mobile customers and that part of their donation might not even reach the intended recipients".

It seems that when you make a donation by text message and pledge let's say $ 10.-, the donor must still pay the few cents for sending the text message. But waivers should be implemented soon, according to some Telecom officials.
