Text Messaging from the friendly skies

Dutch airliner KLM starts in February 2005 with an sms and e-mail service during flights. Initially the service will be available from any chair in a Boeing 777, reports Smart Mobs.

During the flight messages can be sent to cellulars or e-mail adresses all over the world. Passengers will also be able to receive a reply.

This service will cost 2,50 US dollars per message and is to be paid with credit cards.

The Worlds First Flight SMS was announced in September 2003 by Qantas".

Other airlines which offer text messaging:

-- Continental Airlines allows texting on board since November 2003.

-- Singapore Airlines announced in-flgiht texting year end 2003

-- Swiss airline-technology provider SITA launched a two-way in-flight SMS service in September 2003 with their own in-seat telephone handset.

-- Asiana Airlines launched an SMS Service in July 2004.
