Louisiana town awaits telephone age

oldphone.gif This is wild, News.com that Mink, with 15 households, a onetime trappers' paradise in the Kisatchie National Forest in west-central Louisiana, doesn't have phone lines.

"The telephone also never reached the hundred families of Shaw and Black Hawk, hunting and camping communities across the state along the Mississippi River, some of the few and untabulated places around the country lacking telephone lines. Yes, the telephone is not everywhere. In fact, televisions are more common in American homes today.

"The Federal Communications Commission does not keep track of places without phone service, but a survey released in October found that 93.8 percent of American households had telephones of some sort.

More households had televisions--98.2 percent, according to Nielsen Media Research-NTI. "
