112 is the new Europe-wide emergency number

112 is the new Europe-wide emergency number. Apart from the benefits of standardisation, 112 is a more sensible number. It is less likely to be dialled by accident, and it works for all services throughout Europe, a big improvement in places such as France where fire and ambulance had separate numbers.

Well worth keying into your phone's memory if you're off skiing. [via The Guardian]
