EU proposes police access to e-mail, phone calls & SMS

The Council of the European Union is proposing under a draft framework decision that phone companies, mobile companies and internet service providers are to store all information on the people EU citizens called or phoned and places from which those comunications were made for a period of at least one year, reports Public Technology.

"The proposal is a tactic in the fight against terrorism. It needs telcos to keep data allowing official bodies to establish source, destination, routing, time, date, location and duration of communications. Strong stuff. "
