Techno tricks used to ring roulette winnings

roulette.gif Three gamblers who have used a James Bond-style laser device to win more than £1-million ($1.9-million) at the Ritz in March did nothing illegal, police have concluded, reports IOL.

"The Hungarian woman and two Serbian men are to be allowed to keep their £1,3-million ($2.5-million) winnings.

They smuggled in a laser scanner in a cellphone that was linked to a micro-computer. The scanner measured the speed of the ball as it was released, identified where it fell and measured the declining orbit of the wheel.

The data was beamed to the computer, which calculated on which section of numbers the ball would land and flashed this to the cellphone just before bets closed at the wheel's third spin.

Legal sources say they were let off as the scanner did not interfere with the ball or wheel. "
