Dubai eGovernment launches 'pull' SMS service

9195-egov.jpg Dubai's eGovernment has launched a new 'pull' SMS service that allows mobile phone users to seek specific information from government departments by sending an SMS to one number, 4488, and receive a response to their inquiry on the mobile in real time.

"This innovative offering is part of Dubai eGovernment's mDubai service that aims to deliver messages via mobile phones, PDAs or the Internet."

"The launch of the new pull SMS service underlines Dubai eGovernment's commitment to diversify the channels of public interaction and use channels other than the Internet,' said Al Shair. 'The mobile phone has become an inseparable tool for most people and it is logical to use its popularity to enhance the efficiency levels of e-governance. The mobile phone offers convenience, immediacy and accessibility. We are confident that the public will welcome this service whole-heartedly because of its many attractive features.'"
