Japan's DoCoMo in mobile deal with Cingular
NTT DoCoMo, Japan's largest mobile operator, will join U.S. cell phone company Cingular Wireless in a partnership aimed at unifying third-generation cell phone technology and services, reports USA Today.
"The tie-up, under which DoCoMo and Cingular will share technology such as phone software and the DoCoMo's I-mode mobile Internet service, will lead to cheaper phones and will allow users to use the same phone in both the United States and Japan.
It would give the two some 90 million users worldwide, making them second only to the UK's Vodafone Group, the paper said."
