New Car Gadgets May Distract Drivers
Studies of technology in cars have focused on cell phones, and one of the first things researchers learned is that the problems and benefits are poorly understood, reports Reuters.
"A new study by University of Utah traffic and driving researchers shows that using a hands-free cell phone in the car is no safer than driving while holding the handset, indicating that it is the conversation that is distracting. That should be sobering news for many states targeting handheld phones, said Kissinger, who added that at least 40 percent of cell phone usage is in car".
