Pagers face up to extinction

pager.jpg Like public phone booths, pagers are facing extinction due to the rise and popularity of mobile phones, according to the New Scotsman, in an interesting article which traces back pager history and hightlights.

"O2 has already announced its intention to end its paging service on 31 December this year after admitting it was simply no longer "commercially viable" to continue".

"The simplicity of the text message, coupled with the fact that mobile phones were able to operate in silent or vibrate mode, sounded the death knell for the pager."
