Cell Phone Recycling Bill

In a 24-14 party-line vote, the Democrat-controlled Senate passed a bill -- AB 2901 -- to require cell phone sellers to provide free and convenient recycling for their products by July 2006, reports The Mercury News.

"Pavley, the bill's sponsor, estimates 16 million cell phones, which contain mercury and arsenic, will become obsolete in California this year. The bill must return to the Assembly before it reaches Schwarzenegger".
