Filipino mobile phone subscribers should be wary of local phone repair shops charging for virus removal services, antivirus firm Trend Micro warned Wednesday, according to inq7.net.
"In a security advisory, Trend Micro said local mobile phone repair shops are taking advantage of the fear caused by the so-called “Caribe” mobile phone virus that infects Series 60 phones. The virus spreads via Bluetooth, a wireless technology that allows devices like mobile phones to share data.
Several local phone shops advertising their mobile phone virus removal services. One sign even read: “Repair Virus Caribe.”
The antivirus expert said that “disabling” Caribe involves simple steps which anyone with proper guidance can do."
