Maldives halts internet, SMS traffic to block anti-govt messages after protest
Maldives' authorities halted Internet and cell phone text messaging services on Saturday, a day after thousands of activists rallied in a rare show of dissent in this tightly controlled island nation, reports the Khaleej Times.
"Witnesses said Internet and mobile phone text messaging services were not functioning on Saturday. A pro-democracy Web site, maldivesculture.com, said access to the site inside the country had been blocked, but that it could still be read outside Maldives.
