Siemens working on breathalyzer cellphone
Siemens is supposedly working on a mobile phone with a gas sensor built-in, reports i4U via Engadget.
"This sensor could be used for dedecting the alcohol concentration in the users blood via breath analytics. The sensors could also be used to detect ozon concentration in the air or if the user has bad breath.
Siemens has a mobile phone prototype in the lab with the alcohol tester working. The alcohol test mobile phone is about 2 years away, if it ever hits the market."
In a related story, the British Government will trial in Bristol and in the West Midlands a "dashboard breathalyser" device which is designed to stop cars being started if the driver is over the legal alcohol limit.
Known as an alcolock, the electronic device is installed in a car. Before drivers are allowed to turn on the ignition they have to take a breath test in order to check their blood alcohol concentration."
Many states in the US and Canada have introduced the alcolock, and an alcolock trial is currently under way in Sweden. [ via near near future ]
