Wireless Carriers Get the Message
Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S. wireless carrier, is offering MSN Mobile through its next-generation Get It Now mobile-software outlet, and Cingular Wireless has hooked up with Yahoo to offer applications, including IM and e-mail, through the carrier's Media Net service, reports Wireless:NewsFactor Network
"The Internet portals are generating millions of dollars from IM and recognize that extending messaging to wireless users will help them grow that business more quickly, said Ward. IM is not a big money-maker for carriers, he noted, suggesting they could have more compelling messaging services by adding presence capabilities."
