Philippine Smart Offers Text Message Remittance
Smart Communications, the Philippines' largest cellular service provider, introduced during the weekend a cash remittance service via text messaging that will cater mainly to millions of Filipinos working overseas, reports Yahoo Biz.
"We're cheaper, faster and safer than door-to-door remittance services," Smart spokesman Ramon Isberto told Dow Jones Newswires Monday.
The company said its text remittance service is the first of its kind in the world.
Clearly, the service's target market is the more than 6 million Filipinos now working overseas and their families which rely on the money they send home. Last year, migrant Filipino workers remitted $7.64 billion, a significant portion of them through door-to-door courier service."
