SMS Heat Wave Alert for French Elders

To avoid another summer such as last year's, were due to a heat wave, 11,000' elderly French people died, a French company called Jet Multimedia, has developped a multi-platform phone alert system in case of high temperatures.

If the temperature should rise to an alarming level, endagering lives, text messages, voice messages, e-mails or faxes will be dispatched automatically.

Such a system can reach tens of thousands of people in a matter of hours and has alread proven successful during the flood disasters across France in 2003, according to a company press release (in French).
