2 Billion UK Wireless Texts

June's UK text messaging figure of 2.10 billion sets a new record, making it the 6th consecutive month of reporting a total in excess of 2 billion texts, according to figures released today by the Mobile Data Association (MDA). via 3G.

"Person-to-person texts sent across the UK GSM network operators last month show an increase of 28% on the total sent during the same period in 2003".

According to the BBC, major events like summer music festivals, like Glastonbury, are likely to have helped fuel the increase in June and big sporting events like the Euro 2004 football tournament were also expected to have contributed to the texting frenzy.
