Chain SMS to win $200 is a hoax

A chain SMS message, supposedly sent by the three major service providers in Singapore - SingTel, MobileOne and StarHub - has been making the rounds in Singapore, according to Channel News Asia.

"The SMS reads: "Just send this message to another 10 SMS users and you'll get $200, free."

However, when contacted by TODAY, spokesmen for all three companies denied that the message was sent by them. All three service providers urged users to ignore the message and not to follow the instructions."

A very similar hoax circulated in both Belgium and Switzerland. An SMS "chain letter" invited customers of the operator to forward an SMS received to acquaintances. In return, the customers were supposed to be able to send SMS messages for free.
