Philippines bests 17 countries as Asia's leader in SMS tech

The Philippines was cited as the Asia's leader in short message service technology besting 17 other participating countries a recognition that the country is a reliable provider of export products in electronics and telecommunications both for mobile and fixed line subscriptions, reports the Manilla Bulletin Online.

"This development only shows that the Philippines is an integral part of IT and telecommunications development in Asia,'' said Trade and Industry Secretary Cesar V. Purisima.

This recognition was bestowed on the Philippines at the recent CommunicAsia 2000 an industry-wide communications and IT trade event in Asia held in Singapore."
