Airplane-Mode Standards

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announced a project to create a standard method or symbol for indicating "airplane mode" on wireless devices, reports Phone Scoop.

Many wireless devices already include the mode, which disables the radio circuits of a device while still allowing non-radio features, such as games and calendar, to be used.

The new symbol will enable flight attendants to easily verify that the feature has been activated.

It is hoped that the new standard, expected to be finalized and released this fall, will encourage airlines to change their policies to allow use of such devices during flight."
