New Zealand: Text messaging to combat truancy
Schools here and there (see related articles on this subject) have set up Text Messaging systems to fight against school truancy, but this is the first time a government is actually calling for a pilot project.
New Zealand's Education Ministry is to call for tenders for a pilot project involving the testing and emailing of messages to parents, reports The New Zealand Herald.
"As part of the pilot, a small section of schools in the Wellington region would be provided with software which connects to the schools' electronic attendance systems.
"This pilot, due to start in August, is one of several government initiatives aimed at ensuring children are in school and engaged in learning".
