Phones have been blessed in a ritual at a Matsu temple
In an article on why Taiwanese handset makers are successful (because they have an understanding of local consumers), this caught my eye.
"Matsu, the Chinese goddess of the sea, is a popular religious icon in Taiwan. Thousands of people make the pilgrimage to a Matsu temple in the South every year.
Acting on that religious fervor, Okwap (a brand released by Inventec Appliances Corp) designed a limited-edition model that comes with a Matsu holograph on the back of the phone, ringtones featuring religious chants and Matsu wallpaper for the display pad. One interesting selling point is that all the phones have been blessed in a ritual at a Matsu temple.
