Dutch police start SMS-alert service

Hoping to increase the number of watchful ears and eyes on the ground, the Tilburg police are to deploy SMS messaging to warn locals of burglars, reports DMeurope.

"The police are counting on the service working both ways - that locals will also be encouraged to report back any possible leads (but not to go after the suspects themselves).

This service could be extended in the future to include other threats and alarms, such as missing children".
